Petrified Forest National Monument - Painted desert section

We were blessed with partially cloudy skies when we saw the painted desert. Otherwise it was too hot. However it was easy to see and we enjoyed it. Particularly the Blue Mesa trail.

My camera really didn't capture it well so I'm including just this one picture of the painted desert rim area.

There was a stop with ruins.

And petroglyphs.

We then came to the Blue Mesa area.

We did this hike with our dogs and it was spectacular. If you only do one hike this is the one to do.

This seems kind of hot to us said the dogs. Because it was partially cloudy the pavement on this trail was not too hot for their paws. On a full sunny day it likely would have been.
Petrified wood is starting to show up.
