Our next stop was Petroglyph National Monument. This is set up a little differently than other national monuments. The visitor center does not have any attractions near it. Instead you stop and get a map to the three areas. We decided to hit the Boca Negra Canyon. At this stop you have to park your RV in a lot and then walk to the trailhead. Instead we drove the loop and I hopped out at the trail head while my significant other sat in the RV with the dogs and the generator running for AC.
You don't have to go very far up the trail to see the petroglyphs.

I really liked this duck one. |
Unfortunately there was no hand out or or signs with an explanation of the perceived meaning. I expect they just don't know.
From there we went to the Piedras Marcadas Canyon stop. This had a small parking lot which was full and no real RV parking so we continued on without seeing it. There were two large vehicle spaces, one of which might fit our 30 ft RV and the other that would only taking something significantly smaller. They both had pick up trucks in them and given the small parking lot you couldn't blame them.
A good time to visit Piedras Marcadas Canyon is in late afternoon when the lowering sun creates shadows so that you aren't walking in a completely sun baked area with hot black lava rock. You may well have a better chance to get a parking spot in the access lot, which is very small. Be sure to check this map before you go: https://www.nps.gov/petr/planyourvisit/directions.htm
